Murray Lachlan Young is one of the UK’s best known live/performance poets.
His career as a live poet over 19 years has spanned the worlds of rock-n-roll, publishing, feature film, Theatre, TV and Radio.

Murray Lachlan Young made his name on the underground music and Cabaret scene in the mid-nineties in London. His first proper gig was a residency on Radio 4’s Kaleidoscope. His live style as a stand-up poet capable of transfixing audiences with a unique stage presence and a satirical angle on the pop zeitgeist brought him to the attention of the music industry.
His first project after signing a deal in 1995 with Herb Albert and Jerry Moss’s new label ALMO SOUNDS, Murray was put together with the unsigned band Morcheeba to record the now legendary Trip hop version of Simply Everyone’s Taking Cocaine. After this he worked on his first studio Album with Electro punk outfit Shriekback producer Marcus Dravs. Soon after this, Murray was given his own series on MTV USA recording a series of short films for the American market.
Success in the BBC2 coverage of Glastonbury moved his profile higher and as the press caught wind that he had signed an unprecedented million pound plus record deal with EMI UK he became a headline international media story.
Murray was given a BBC two special with Vice and Verse plus a deal for publication of his collection of poets entitled Casual Sex and Other Verse by Transworld Books. A writer performer role in a high budget advertising campaign for Virgin Atlantic and as Gallows poet in the cult classic movie Plunkett and McClain.
He toured with the pet shop boys, The Pretenders, Julian Cope and Morcheeba.Released three studio albums working with Shriek back, Brix Smith, Martin Chambers (Pretenders), Jonathan Perkins (Spiritual Cowboys) and multi-platinum producer Chris Thomas and Jools Holland. Played the main stages of numerous pop festivals including Glastonbury, Phoenix and ‘T’ in the park. His work has been released in: Italy, Holland, Germany and USA.

- Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre,London - to write and perform various pieces including a prologue to the Golden Ass.
- Brunell University - for a series of poems to be performed to music composed by Peter Wiegold based around the work of William Blake.
- Murray is currently a resident poet on the Sony Gold award winning radio 4 Saturday live program.
- He is touring a triple five star-reviewed family show Modern Cautionary Tales For Children.
